The silence before and the silence after, a sound, transmitted as a homing device,
As a return, up the river of song, and as a coming down, altered.
The songs we are entrusted with, the arrangements we make,
For the voices that we are, and the weave we become.
“Full Circle” – inspired by a journey to Bulgaria for the women’s living folklore vocal – is the musical fruition of a love story in action, across the world, performed by Medena Ensemble in Aotearoa, this down-under winter and spring.
A window into the project aired on RNZ Concert last week as Bulgarian Sounds in Aotearoa, featuring five Medena singers, some new arrangements of ancient melodies, and Tui Mamaki’s kōrero with Bryan Crump.
Will you join us in the resonant wood of beautiful churches to celebrate?
FULL CIRCLE : AUCKLAND Unitarian Church ~ SUN 21 JUNE @ 6pm
FULL CIRCLE : WELLINGTON St Peter’s on Willis ~ SUN 20 SEPT @ 3pm

PS _ Another kind of full circle is my return to Euskadi / Pay Basque in July 2026, to celebrate the 30 years of Errobiko Festibala, by offering a 3 day vocal creation workshop, inspired by Bulgarian women’s folklore [20-22 July]
